The controller position is accountable for the accounting and finance operations of the company. The controller will be responsible for all (including subsidiary) financial reports, structure, design and maintenance of accounting records and reports, including reports and controls designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results, provide management with day to day operational reporting necessary to monitor real time operational performance for increased efficiency and profitability and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or standards. The Controller will coordinate financial close, administer the accounting system, develop, and maintain efficiency, operational controls, and reporting and is responsible for all general accounting and manufacturing accounting functions at the corporate and operating company level. The Controller must be able to work with and provide financial analysis to senior holding company and operating subsidiary leadership.
Position Responsibilities:
Leadership: Provides leadership and guidance that is reflective of the mission, vision, and core values. Maintain ethics and integrity consistent with our mission and values.
Management: Maintains and enforces a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; oversee the operations of the accounting department, oversee, and support the accounting operations of subsidiary corporations, especially their control systems, transaction-processing operations, and policies and procedures
Financial Controls: Design, implement, and monitor appropriate financial controls for compliance with applicable laws, regulations, general accepted accounting principles, and internal expectations, including the development and maintenance of policies and procedures.
Financial Reporting: Plan and direct the consolidation of information. Research transactions to ensure GAAP compliance. Gather information, interpret, analyze, and prepare consolidated financials to include intercompany transfer and allocations, system set up (accounting periods, codes, etc.) for proper consolidation of information and ensure proper classification of transactions for consolidated reporting.
Financial Analysis: Support and implement financial planning models to evaluate the organization’s proposed capital expenditures and strategic initiatives to determine impact. Monitor and analyze operating results against plan. Make recommendations to senior leaders. Responsible for verification of GAAP and other regulatory standards as applied to the company’s financial and business activities.
Financial Close: Timely and accurate month end close including but not limited to, revenue and expenses are properly recorded and analyzed. Accruals and Prepaid are recorded; all balance sheet accounts are fully analyzed and reconciled monthly, updating, analyzing, and ranking accounts for risk on a quarterly basis; all “Opportunities and Risks” are communicated during the monthly result review process; variances to budget and prior year are articulated succinctly to senior staff: revenue, COGS, and other Income Expenses; G&A; all monthly reporting are prepared accurately with consistency and timeliness.
Transactions: Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner; ensure that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable; ensure that accounts receivable are collected promptly; ensure that balance sheet reconciliations, including cash and investments, are completed; ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis; maintain the chart of accounts; maintain an orderly accounting filing system; maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions.
Plant/Operating Company Support: Perform regularly scheduled walkthroughs of the plant with management to discuss production and costing issues and design accounting processes or procedures to monitor and report deficiencies in day-to-day operations. Review and report labor costs, material costs, manufacturing overhead, distribution costs, returns and inventory levels, etc. Collaborate with manufacturing, finance, and sales management personnel to discuss and address overall plant operational issues.
Compliance: Coordinate the provision of information to external accountants for the annual review; monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants; comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
Budgeting and Forecasting: Support the budgeting and forecasting process for the entire organization.
Cash Management and Working Capital: Manage cash and working capital through operating company personnel; serve as intermediary between banks and operating companies to ensure high levels of service and appropriate controls. Responsible for liquidity management to meet all current and future liabilities and ensure that business activities are funded in the most appropriate and cost-effective manner.
Consulting and Operating Company Support: Communicate with operating companies to interpret operational issues and aid in developing reports which help to drive the financial planning and decision-making process.
. Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree Required
8+ years’ experience relative to the position (experience in a manufacturing environment required)
Cost accounting experience
Demonstrated expertise in MS office and ORACLE financial software is required. Experience with NetSuite ERP systems is a bonus.
In depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and consolidated financials
Extensive knowledge of accounting and reporting, cash management, cost accounting, financial statement analysis and forecasting is required.
Strong planning, organizational and change management skills and abilities are required. Ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks, priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-moving environment.
Superior analytical, sound judgment and problem-solving skills
A track record of high achievement, meeting/exceeding goals and driving results is required.
Customer-focused attitude, with high level of professionalism and confidentiality with a collaborative working style that thrives in a cross functional team and matrixed environment.
Advanced proficiency in business systems (NetSuite preferred) and MS Office suite
