This role has global responsibilities in providing strategy, leadership, and direction around all accounting and control activities for the PG&A (Parts, Garments, Accessories) business unit within Polaris. The role will direct all aspects of financial accounting and reporting to support business objectives and lead a team to improve processes, manage financial analysis and decision support on complex technical accounting matters and support growth initiatives. Also, the role will establish and maintain a strong system of internal control. The role reports directly to the business unit Finance VP and coordinates all necessary interactions with external and internal auditors. This role also partners with and advises the aftermarket PG&A controller teams.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position is a key role and includes substantial visibility to the Corporate Finance and PG&A leadership teams. This person will lead the consolidation, reporting on business performance, as well as recommending actions to improve business processes and outcomes.
Accountable for operational accounting and control across all financial aspects of the business.
Manage efficient, timely, and accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close processes for the business unit, from data collection, analysis, accounting, and reporting.
Oversee the financial integrity of the financial data and systems for the business unit, including monthly accrual and financial close entries, as well as helping inform key business analytics and cross functional teams.
Facilitate discussions with business groups and work with business managers to ensure effective accounting for changes in business.
Reconcile balance sheet accounts for accuracy and adherence to generally accepted accounting principles and internal policy, including preparation and management of quarterly reserve analysis.
Partner with the Corporate Controller and Corporate Accounting team on internal policy interpretations, proposed revisions, and exception requests.
Design and implement processes and internal controls to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, Sarbanes-Oxley, internal polices, and statutory and/or local regulations.
Coordinate documentation and review of accounting controls, Sarbanes and otherwise, and serve as steward of broader business unit and company-wide financial process, procedure and controls
Partner with IS, business and operational teams to ensure financial accuracy and strong controls.
Coordinate activities with external and internal auditors.
Drive process improvement across all accounting activities including implementation and/or enhancement of tools, systems, and processes.
Attract, lead and develop team to achieve high engagement, strong team and individual performance. Monitor progress to company, department and individual goals. Manage workload, evaluate resource requirements and provide guidance to the team.
Lead accounting integration efforts for strategic acquisitions and partnerships – ensuring optimal use of accounting resources.
Build strong partnerships and share best practices with other Polaris Controllers, including Controllers from other Business Units, Functions, and Geographies.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent; CPA strongly preferred
8+ years accounting experience; experiences in public accounting, manufacturing or retail industries, international business and acquisition integration a plus
Proficient in U.S. GAAP and experience implementing internal controls, including anti-fraud controls (COSO framework)
Experience leading and conducting monthly closing of financials and generating financial reporting packages for partners
Proficient with accounting and financial reporting systems; experience in OneStream and AS400 a plus
Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis a plus
Ability to analyze complex data and translate it into actionable information and plans; experience in Alteryx, BI and Snowflake a plus
Proven experience working, communicating, influencing and leading effectively cross-functionally and with all levels of management; experience within a matrixed environment preferred
Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills; Ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines, and execute sound decision making
Ability to notice and attend to minor details while at the same time understanding the big picture
Demonstrated strong personal drive, initiative, persistence, and accountability
Business partner, hands-on approach to achieve desired outcomes
