Job Description : *Position is eligible for partial remote work*Office and Manufacturing- located in Clare, MichiganThe Cost Accountant II works directly with Accounting and Manufacturing to develop and refine initial costing for new products, both standard and custom to aid sales with quoting products and services. Analyze, conceptualize and recommend processes, manufacturing quantities and ideas that may be more cost effective than traditional methods.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop costing spreadsheets and tools for quoting products/services for sales and R&D from and or within QAD for new and existing products, including both standard and custom products. Maintain organized documentation of all provided information.Working with the accounting and manufacturing departments to provide detailed information to be used to construct product costs within a bill of material (BOM) and routing. This includes working with Manufacturing Engineering to determine cost center rates, labor costs, methods for determining support services and other cost criteria. Assure communication of product costing to manufacturing operations for measurement and reporting during product or project progress.Reviewing and analyzing product lines and products to ensure that up-to-date costing is reflective of any manufacturing changes within the plant. Develop and utilize tools to support “what if analysis” as to the impact on cost when product, process or method changes are proposed.Analyze manufacturing variances and recommend BOM and lot size changes as appropriate.Responsible for bi-weekly cost rolls for each entity which includes StageRight Rogers Athletic, TSI and Filcon. Cost rolls entail analyzing changes and understanding the motivation behind those changes before recommending rolling the changes.Responsible for monthly expense re-classing related to custom orders. Mentor the General Accountant I in backing up and broadening knowledge in this process.Regularly analyze department labor and overhead rates and update accordingly.Analyze and communicate trends or cost changes to the management group and support general business decisions with the appropriate costing information. Recommend make/buy decisions that may assist purchasing in deciding the best financial impact.Analyze and report project costs after shipment and compare to original estimates.Work directly with Project Accountant to estimate and calculate final project costs and margins as it begins to be manufactured and shipped, taking into account any anticipated cost changes that occur along the way.Responsible for month and year end analysis and closing of financials; as well as working directly with other accountants to achieve accurate and timely reporting of all Rogers Group units.Q*UALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: *The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Three to five years’ experience in a manufacturing setting in preferred.LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must possess the ability to read, analyze and interpret the English language. Must have the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and internal customers (co-workers). Excellent communication skills are a must. The ability to work with a wide range of employees including plant, office and management personnel is critical. Strong professionalism and confidentiality skills are essential.REASONING ABILITY: Must possess the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Must be a broad thinker and be able to conceptualize the effects of changes on products, processes and other departments before those changes are made.
