Job Description : Friendly House, Inc., is a 501(c) 3 non-profit agency located in Phoenix, Arizona whose primary function is to provide a variety of educational and social service programming aimed at addressing the needs of low-income individuals and families, vulnerable populations and diverse communities. Additionally, Friendly House operates a charter school, Academia del Pueblo, with the mission to provide an academic environment which promotes a culture of high expectations to students from diverse cultures. Friendly House was organized in 1920 as the Phoenix Americanization Committee by a group of Phoenix citizens with the assistance of the United States Department of Education. In our 100-year history, the work of Friendly House has resulted in building resilient communities that are helping to spur economic development, stabilize neighborhoods and revitalize our city.

Position Summary

Friendly House, Inc. is interested in hiring a Grant Accountant to work as part of the Accounting Team. This position is expected to achieve excellence in grants management by providing accurate and timely reporting by adhering to established grant policies, principles, and by ensuring functional analysis systems to support the Program Teams. This position requires strong grant analytics, fund management, reporting, and professional communication skills.

This position will oversee the management of Friendly House and Academia Del Pueblo (a Kindergarten to 8th Grade charter school) grants and funded programs. This individual will work closely with a variety of fiscal, budgetary, and program services functions pertaining to areas such as budgeting, grant funded programs, cost allocations, specific cash management, financial reporting, audit schedules, and grant claiming.

Position Qualifications

Job Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
Experience using accounting systems for tracking grants and budgets.
Knowledge of methods and practices of grant and contract reporting, OMB requirements.
Ability to perform moderately complex accounting functions.
Advanced knowledge of Excel including Pivot Table experience.
Exemplary communication and collaborative skills, including the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
Excellent organizational, problem solving, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in Not-for-Profit Accounting
Minimum three years of experience in Federal, State of Arizona, and Local grants management ADE GME experience.
Experience using Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains preferred or equivalent system.

Responsibilities:

Prepares all grant and contract claims to maximize revenue and ensure timely submissions.
Reconciliation of claims to the General Ledger as well as contract budgets and provides explanations for variances.
Assist in preparation of annual and contract budgets.
Analyze grant and contract budget variances and prepare spending projections, as needed.
Monitor contract expenses to ensure expenditures remain within budgets and minimize unallowable charges.
Maintain GL & AR, including making sure all entries are made and reconciled with the program departments and other entities, and the proper allocation methodology is applied.
Reconciliation of payroll allocation to the GL as well as contract budgets to ensure correct proper allocation.
Prepare reports to keep management informed on status of grants and contracts.
Attend grant and contract agency meetings.
Work with program staff on proposals, budget modifications, etc.
Prepare grant and contract reports for federal, state, local and other donor entities.
Grant and Contract revenue and receivables analysis.
Assist the Business and Community Development Manager and program management with grant applications and reporting.
Respond to funder and agency wide audit requests.
Maintain accounting records, as directed.
Assist with monthly close.
Perform related duties, as assigned and occasional back-up accounting systems support.
