Position : Applications Developer III
Job Description : Supports and leads technical fulfillment of grant-funded projects at the Libraries – Geographic Information System (GIS) Center. Processes and analyzes geo-spatial data, algorithm development and scripting, web application development, crowd-sourcing data and tool development, technical support, and report writing. This position reports to the head of the GIS Center and can possibly include supervision of staff and students in completion of their project related assignments.
Leads efforts in front end development and data analytics of funded geo-spatial projects.
Works closely with GIS technical team to plan, implement, support, and maintain customizations and/or functionality for client and web-based system capabilities for funded projects.
Develops in a variety of object-oriented and proprietary application languages.
Troubleshoots technical and non-technical issues related to existing applications.
Performs data analytics that supports the geo-web applications.
Hand-codes, analyzes, debugs, and delivers clean, validated, maintainable codes.
Develops algorithms and scripts for geo-spatial data processing and visualization.
Researches new trends and makes recommendations for best practices in geo-spatial web and related computing environment.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Studies, or other technical discipline and five (5) years related experience OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Desired Qualifications
Master’s in Computer Engineering or equivalent.
Demonstrated course work or certificate in GIS and/or Remote Sensing.
Experience applying geo-spatial technology in the field of ecology, or environmental sciences, transportation planning or urban planning.
Familiarity with geo-spatial web APIs and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), MS-SQL, MySQL, IIS and Apache web servers, Java, Tomcat, HTML, CSS, XML, and JavaScript.
Familiarity with scripting languages such as R and Python.
