Position Summary:
Under the guidance of the Director of University Web Services, the Web Developer is responsible for web programming to create pages, layouts, and templates for web content providers and editors of the university’s internet web sites, both inside and outside of the CMS.
Essential Functions:
-Designs, develops, troubleshoots, debugs and implements new features for Drupal and other related systems.
-Creates services and applications to leverage the interoperability and syndication of web content and services.
– Enhances web applications to meet new demands; troubleshoots and debugs.
– Implements maintenance of sites, consistency of data, and adherence to NJIT specifications and the university guidelines, styles, standards, and policies.
-Assists in developing site concepts. Contributes to the efforts to enhance the functionality of the university’s web presence.
-Researches and tests new web technologies. Researches other college web sites and ensures NJIT’s web site remains competitive, recommending new applications and features as appropriate.
-Assists system users including troubleshooting problems, analyzing malfunctions and resolving problems. Responds to problem reports, diagnoses and resolves root causes. Collaborates with IT department and vendor(s) for problem resolutions.
Additional Functions:
-As part of the Web Services team, is cross-trained with and backs-up other technical members.
-Performs other duties as assigned.
Prerequisite Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in web development or related field.
Three years of professional experience with current web development technologies.
Drupal back-end development expertise required.
Advanced knowledge of HTML5/CSS3, PHP/MySQL, and jQuery. Demonstrated knowledge of administering web platforms (LAMP) and optimizers (Varnish/load balancing). Demonstrated knowledge of code management with Git.
Strong written and verbal skills required.
Preferred Qualifications:
At the university’s discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be accepted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university and the SPHS Leadership Council, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
