Job Description : The College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts (PSFA) is one of eight instructional units of San Diego State University. The College is comprised of ten diverse departments and schools: the departments of Aerospace Studies, Military Science and Naval Science; the schools of Art, Design, Communication, Hospitality and Tourism Management, Journalism and Media Studies, Music and Dance, Public Affairs, and Theatre, Television and Film as well as ten research centers. The College is staffed by 47 positions comprised of administrative, clerical, and technical staff in addition to over 100 tenured/tenure-track faculty and nearly 100 lecturers/graduate teaching associates serving approximately 5,000 majors.
The Dean’s Office is responsible for the creation, implementation, and continued support of the instructional, research, and development processes in the College.
Under the general direction of the Dean, the primary responsibilities of this position are to develop, design, and maintain the College’s website and related online communication. The incumbent will develop, design, evaluate and remediate the College’s websites/web publications to ensure compliance with federal, state, and CSU accessibility standards and to provide professional, current, and effective websites for the College and its academic programs.
The position will collaborate with StratComm and the IT Division Web Services group to ensure that the College’s websites adhere to campus-style guidelines and branding standards, and will participate and contribute to campus initiatives to implement shared web templates across a common content management system.
The incumbent will interact with School Directors and Chairs within the College to coordinate timely updates, web development/design, and/or remediation of the school/department websites while working with the Dean to set overall work priorities and assignments. The incumbent will work closely with the Dean to develop and implement comprehensive content management administration protocol and web policies for the College.
Secondary Responsibilities:
May include designing collateral print materials such as publicity materials, newsletters, and invitations.
Overseeing student interns/student assistant(s) to produce web-based and print materials.
Expected results are that PSFA websites, web-based communications, and print materials are professional, current, and compliant with federal, state, and CSU accessibility standards. The incumbent will ensure that PSFA websites, web-based communications, and print materials adhere to university publishing guidelines.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base) benefits-eligible, permanent (probationary) position.This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The individual hired into this role will work on-campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Education and Experience
To enter this classification, a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in technical information systems and application program packages is a prerequisite. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified coursework in applicable fields of study. Foundation knowledge and skills for the Information Technology Consultant, depending on the nature of the position assignment, may include working knowledge of common software application packages, equipment platforms, reference database systems and sources, and training methods and a basic understanding of networks, data communication, and multimedia systems.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced, team environment.
Ability to organize and prioritize workload efficiently under minimal supervision.
Working knowledge and experience in the implementation of effective professional design practices.
Demonstrated expertise in web development and programming that enables highly effective web communications for the College.
Experience with website migration projects, preferably involving migration into a new content management system.
Specialized Skills
Bachelor’s degree or certified coursework in applicable fields of study.
Minimum of two years experience in web development/design.
Demonstrated experience in print media design and publishing.
Strong interpersonal skills, both written and spoken.
Experience developing both dynamic and static websites.
Ability to develop and deploy dynamic content across a multi-site environment.
Experience developing websites that align with campus or organizational style guidelines and branding standards.
Working knowledge of implementation of web accessibility guidelines, such as Federal 508, WCAG 2.0, and the CSU ATI Standards.
Ability to create accessible PDFs and Word documents, and convert existing documents to accessible versions.
Working knowledge of Accessible Rich Internet Applications (ARIA) specifications.
Ability to develop web-based registration systems, implement user forms, and activate submission security methods.
Working knowledge of the SharePoint platform to develop a collaborative interface and manage user administration.
Working knowledge of campaign automation and CRM platforms such as SalesForce, Marketo, IModules, and ConstantContact.
Working knowledge of Box office ticketing systems such as Spektrix.
Working knowledge of XHTML, XML, HTML5, CSS3, SCSS, Javascript, PHP, SQL, and ASP.NETFamiliarity with Java, Scala, J2EE, Ruby, or similar languages.
Working knowledge of current content management systems such as WordPress, Edublog, ExpressEngine, Drupal, Omni CMS.
Working knowledge of backup and restoration procedures for web files and databases.
Familiarity with SEO best practices, Google Webmaster Tools, Search Console, Analytics, and building XML Site Maps.
Strong working knowledge of Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, Premiere, and other Adobe CS or CC design production tools.
Working knowledge of current database programming tools such as MySQL Must be detail-oriented and organized.
Excellent customer service skills and ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical clients in written and oral forms.
Ability to work with clients on projects from concept to completion.
Ability to work with external website vendors.
Ability to lead and manage a student web maintenance team.
Ability to lead and support a staff web maintenance team.
Ability to effectively communicate with users to identify and meet their needs.
Ability to work independently and effectively while handling multiple assignments.
Ability to coordinate projects and work in teams.
Ability to demonstrate sensitivity and understanding to individuals of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, linguistic, and ethnic backgrounds.

Compensation and Benefits
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources. Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $6,000 per month.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,372 – $10,792 per month.
SDSU COVID-19 Vaccine Policy
In accordance with the California State University systemwide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus. An individual is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose of a two-shot vaccine or two weeks after the first dose of a single-shot vaccine.
The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university’s secure online health portal prior to beginning work. Individuals with an approved medical or religious exemption on file with the university will be required to participate in SDSU’s COVID-19 testing program.
