Job Description : Location

Office space for this position will be located on the University of West Georgia campus in Carrollton, GA. Some remote work or an office at the University System of Georgia building in Atlanta, GA may be an option.

Job Summary

Design, develop, and deploy highly functional custom websites and web applications. Administer web services and Content Management System (CMS). Evaluate, install and support third-party web applications to support web presence and the operational processes of administrative and staff organizations.

Design, develop and support DevOp processes for administering web servers. Serve as the lead for web application problem management processes as well as the change management process for development

Responsibilities

Design, Develop and Support Web Applications – 40%
Design, develop and support dynamic web applications. Interact with broad and diverse cross-organizational customer base to define requirements and functionality to support best practices. Plan and schedule development and negotiate project plans and milestones with clients. Analyze and design database and coding requirements with emphasis on structured and object-oriented code development. Develop custom applications using Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP, Javascript, JQuery, HTML, and CSS. Perform user testing, data validation, documentation, and deployment. Provide end-user training. Develop documentation and implement strategies for ongoing support.
Administer Web Servers – 20%
Administer web servers. Collaborate with UWG ITS to Install, configure, and upgrade Linux, Apache, PHP, and MySQL platforms. Compile, install, and configure programs and application libraries. Monitor user access, throughout and server performance. Perform installation and configuration tasks including setting up virtual hosts, aliasing, and re-directs. Develop shell scripts and CRON jobs to automate periodic system administration tasks. Monitor and analyze web server security vulnerabilities and access logs.
Third-party Web Applications – 10%
Evaluate, install, configure and support third-party web applications. Research and evaluate cost-benefit of applications based on functionality, and the ability of functionality to meet requirements. Perform cost justifications and make or buy analysis. Help prepare associated business cases to allocate funding and internal resources.

Design and Develop Databases and Schemas – 10%
Design and develop databases and schemas including tables, fields, indexes, and views required to drive new and existing application data sets for dynamic web content.

Security Controls – 10%
Define and implement security controls. Work closely with UWG systems administrators, networking, and chief security office on developing and administering policies and procedures to protect the security of data on web application and databases. Serve as lead developer to select, develop, and implement coding standards, code libraries, and practices that are efficient, secure and well documented.

Other Duties – 10%
Other duties and tasks related to the departmental mission of student access and success.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in an IT or related field

3+ years experience with developing websites and web applications.

Up to date knowledge on websites and web applications using HTML, CSS, SCSS, PHP, and JavaScript/JQuery.

Working knowledge of MySQL and relational database design.

3+ years experience with Linux and Apache web servers.

Knowledge of version control systems such as Git and Sourcetree.

Knowledge of modern web semantic and accessibility standards such as W3C and ARIA.

Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Ability to organize and execute a project using basic project management techniques.

Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with a diverse constituency. Excellent writing skills and solid command of the written English language.

Strong, professional team player who can communicate, collaborate and influence effectively with stakeholders at all levels of our organization.

Ability to proactively identify opportunities to improve processes and quickly implement solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

Higher Education Experience

Familiarity with (OOP) Object-Oriented Programming PHP

Experience responding to real-time cybersecurity incidents

Proposed Salary

$52,056 (minimum) – $65,676

Conditions of Employment

The ability to lift 25 lbs and relocate or handle desktop computer peripherals.
This position may occasionally require evening, weekend work, and limited travel.
