ean Agile-Leaders (LAL) have the task to drive and sustain organizational and operational changes by empowering individuals and teams to improve their potential. Finally they lead the change to the agile way of working.
Lean Agile Leaders lead by example, establishing the Lean-Agile mindset, values, principles and practices.
Therefore they must really live the leaner ways of thinking and operating so that Agile Development Teams will learn from their example, coaching and support.
The Lean Agile Leader has the following 3 main tasks:
Leading the Change: create the environment, prepare the people and provide the necessary resources to realize desired outcomes during the transition phase
Leading by Example: live the desired behaviors as: authenticity, emotional intelligence, life-long learning and decentralized decision-making
Developing Mindset and Principles: embed the Lean-Agile way of working in the beliefs, decisions, responses, and actions; define and establish the expected norm throughout the organization
Qualifications
The Lean-Agile Leader is fully responsible for the following topics:
leading an organization of 20 to 50 engineers
acting as agile coach and mentor for the teams regarding organizational transformation
establishing objective feedback channels for monitoring and measuring the performance of the organizaton (Agile Principle: Transparency)
driving employee capability management:
identifying the needed technical and social skills and planning the necessary trainings for the organization (Agile Principle: Technical Excellence)
ensuring talent management
building up strategic technology competencies with respect to product portfolio development (Agile Principle: Technical Excellence)
recruiting new employees
building cross-functional and self-organizing teams according the corresponding Agile Principles
covering escalation topics regarding inter-personnel and talent managment issues according the Agile Escalation Method
managing external subcontractors to close internal engineering capacity and capability gaps for his/her organization
ensuring cross-functional communication / cooperation and networking to improve information flow, fostering Community of Practices (CoP)
eliminating impediments as well as demotivating policies and practices
defining a vision of organizational development and supporting appropriate needed transformations (Agile Principles: System Thinking, Lean Thinking, Agile Planning)
driving selected strategic technical organizational / infrastructure improvements based on the organizational strategic break down of the Location Lead (e.g. Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, Test Automation (Agile Principle: Quality First))
handling delegated budget responsibility to cover selected organizational improvement activities
providing stable team setups based on the Business Owner demands, striving for high-performance teams with a healthy split of junior and senior competencies
supporting the Business Owner in realistic estimations for future product quotes
participating in Scaled Agile ceremonies as e.g. Inspect & Adapt if requested
attending R&D planning with focus on staffing and organizational improvements
supporting creation of and releasing quotations regarding his/her organization with focus on staffing and organizational improvements
approving and aligning business trips, sabatticals, homeoffice, vacation and part time for members of his/her organization
acting as interface to Human Relations about employee development specific topics as well as doing leadership people development and hiring and growing new employees
delegation of mentoring responsibility to senior role representatives (e.g. Release Train Engineers coaches and mentors Scrum Masters)
